Admitted to the bar as a lawyer in 2004.
Prof Dr Kleinheisterkamp is a leading specialist in international arbitration, focusing on international commercial contracts. In addition to his academic work at the London School of Economics, he acts as an arbitrator, and has conducted a range of arbitrations under ICC, LCIA and UNCITRAL arbitration rules as sole, party-appointed and presiding arbitrator in the past 10 years, with numerous cases involving IP law. Furthermore, he has acted as emergency arbitrator for the ICC, and as a panellist in ICANN expert determination proceedings regarding general Top Level Domains (gTLDs), and regularly works as a consultant and expert in international arbitration proceedings.
Prof Dr Kleinheisterkamp is also a member of the Governing Body of the Dispute Resolution Services of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and a member of the advisory group for international arbitration of the British Government. He is a member of the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and is on the panels of the Regional Centre for Arbitration in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and the arbitration centres of the Chamber of Commerce in Lima (Peru) and the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce (CCIP) in Lisbon. He is a member of the Faculty Council of the Law Faculty of de Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and regularly teaches in the scope of the Master of International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) of the Graduate Institute and the University of Geneva, at the Université Paris II – Panthéon Assas, and at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium). Prof Dr Kleinheisterkamp speaks German, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
